What Is the Satoshi Index? How to See What Top Traders Hold Right Now

If you follow perp trading on Hyperliquid, dYdX, Lighter or Pacifica, you have probably wondered what the top accounts on any given exchange are actually holding right now. The Satoshi Index is a free, public page that answers that — no login required, no wallet to connect, just a live leaderboard and an asset-by-asset view of what the best-performing traders currently hold long or short.
What it is
Every account on a perpetuals exchange built on an on-chain order book is, by nature, public — its open positions, entry price and unrealized P&L can be read directly from the chain or the exchange's own public API. The Satoshi Index takes the top 100 accounts by 7-day return on each of Hyperliquid, dYdX, Lighter and Pacifica, combines them into one ranking, and keeps it updated hourly.

The table above is the main leaderboard. A few things worth knowing about it:
- Rank and Return are based on the selected time window (24h, 7d, 30d or all time) — a trader near the top of the 7-day list may not be near the top of the 30-day list.
- P&L and Account value come straight from each exchange's public position data, not from self-reported numbers.
- The filter tabs let you narrow the list to a single exchange, or look at "Known traders" — accounts the community has identified, shown with their actual trading history.
What you can see per asset: the long/short view
The leaderboard answers "who is doing well." The second view answers a different question: "what are the best traders holding, broken down by coin?" That is the long/short-by-asset table.

Here is how to read a row, using ETH as an example:
- Long · Short (traders) — how many of the top accounts are long ETH versus short. 110 long traders vs. 57 short in the screenshot above.
- Long · Short (amount) — the dollar amount on each side, which matters more than headcount: a handful of large accounts can outweigh many small ones.
- The bar and percentage (e.g. "Long 82%") show the net lean — how skewed the top traders are toward one side for that asset.
- Unrealized P&L is the combined paper profit or loss of those positions at the current price, not a prediction of what happens next.
This is a snapshot of open positions, not a buy or sell signal — it shows what top accounts are holding, not what they will do next, and "top" is defined by past return, which does not guarantee future results.
Where the data comes from
The Satoshi Index only uses data that is already public: Hyperliquid, dYdX, Lighter and Pacifica each expose position and account data through their own public APIs or on-chain state, the same information a block explorer or the exchange's own UI would show. Satoshi Note does not have any special access, and accounts that have marked their positions as hidden on the exchange itself are excluded from the ranking.
Try it yourself
The Satoshi Index is open at satoshinote.io/traders — no account needed. If you want to track a specific trader going forward instead of checking back manually, Satoshi Note also has a watchlist feature with alerts, covered in a separate post.
Satoshi Note is free. Read-only API keys only. The site is satoshinote.io.
